Gamm, MD, PhD, RPB/IRRF Catalyst Awardee, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, will optimize transplanted retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE) cell survival, which is critical to the success of RPE transplantation as a therapy for retinal degenerative diseases. Visual loss in AMD is largely due to damage to the RPE, the tissue that nourishes and supports the light-sensing photoreceptors.
